intalksicology: let’s communicate science like we’re talking to real people (because we are!!)

INTRODUCTION TO INTALKSICOLOGY

Homepage updated August 14, 2025

Hi there! Thank you for taking the time to check out my blog…I’m so happy you’re here 😊 I had wanted to start a blog all the way back in my undergraduate years (2016-2020) to share with the world, but more importantly, to share with YOU, my scientific experiences and just living life in my twenties. It took me a while to start, AKA a whole bachelor’s degree, postbac fellowship, and one year of graduate school, to start (August 2023). BUT, the important thing is that we are here, we are present, and we are DOING THIS!! OK. First, introductions.

Hello again :) My name is Knicki and I am a fourth year PhD candidate at the University of Rochester (Rochester, New York) studying reproductive toxicology. After spending the first 24 years of my life living in Maryland, I decided I wanted to try something, or rather, someWHERE, new. SomeHOW that led me to one of the most overcast and snowiest cities in the United States. Yeah, I’m a little confused too. 😅 Hehe, jk. Rochester is really amazing, and it’s the people that make it so wonderful. I’m so happy I’m here.

Some more things about me: I graduated from Towson University (Maryland) in May 2020 (woo! pandemic times!) with a B.S. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, and Bioinformatics (that is the name of ONE major) and a minor in Chemistry.

Fun things about me: I’m the youngest of three (would you have guessed I’m a baby? 🤪), I’ve played soccer my whole life, I’ve run six half marathons and am considering my first full marathon, I love hiking (7/46 Adirondack High Peaks completed, 9/63 National Parks visited), reading, writing (hence the blog), photography (check out my insta @knix.pix), riding my bike, looking hot and mysterious in coffee shops, traveling solo (despite my parents’ worries), trying out new activities, volunteering in my community, living, laughing, loving. And science. I think science is really cool. And I want to help other people realize how cool science is too! And I hope that this blog can help with that. Or that this blog will help me build the necessary skills to do that in a future job. OR that this blog will lead me to internships, networking, jobs, whatever it is, to THEN have the necessary skills to let you all know just how cool science is! I think that the way we (researchers, scientists, institutions, officials, other things and people I’m too scared to mention) conduct and communicate science is very inaccessible to the general public, and I want to be one of the people who helps change that. So, hopefully this is a start!

Albeit, probably not a great start because who is really going to read this long a** intro?? One critique I often get is that I write too much…but I have so much to say 🥺 And I like having conversations with real people…so I write just like that. Like I’m having a conversation with a real person. So let’s cheers to that 🥂Let’s communicate science like we’re talking to real people! (Because we are!!). OK. If you have made it to the end of this. Thank you. No really. THANK YOU. I love you and you are my favorite. I can’t wait to see where this blog goes and I can’t wait to live out all the stories I will tell you about 🕺 Cheers, bruv!
